When traveling with large amounts of cash, be aware that police can seize all of it and not return it, for no reason. They are just a bunch of criminals with badges. The money the steal goes to them. It is a lenghty process and very expensive to try to recoup it, so most don't bother.

Ever hear of ATM card, reciprocal bank arrangements? The only places you can go where you can't get money (the peak of Mt. Everest for instance) you don't need money. The authorities think you have something (like money laundering, for example) to hide and they are very likely right...

Did you watch the video????? Did you hear the numbers of how much they have taken and how much of it was legally obtained, legally allowed to have and carry and was never returned once cleared????

Over 50% of the money seized was legally obtained and allowed to be carried. People have to sue to get their money back. This is an income stream for the DEA.

91% was from legal sources, according to the second study.

I travel with large amounts of cash because it's more convenient (I go to casinos and bet large amounts). This is completely legal, and the police have no right to take it from me.

When traveling domestically, you are legally allowed to travel with any amount of cash, and don't have to declare it.

How much is a Canadian usa think. In japan Where pickpocketing does not exist carrying Thousands of dollars of cash is normal.

Coming back to Canada I had to train myself to watch out for cash pirates Add not carry large sums of cash.

I was sure the pandemic changed it But before the pandemic Japan preferred cash. Many locations would not take ATM cards or credit cards. Traditional japanese hotels for 1.

True, but I assumed this was about international travel.
The screwed Either way. Digital accounts could be frozen in anytime for trivial reasons.

Civil Forfeiture

This is a huge problem in the US and was highlighted (humorously) by John Oliver. Worth the watch.

I don't know if the abuse is anywhere the same as the US but it exists in Ontario

I would be curious how the funds are used as I suggest the intent of the law goes off the rails if the enforcement agency benefits from the seized assets.

Much of the money seized goes to the police department, it's a conflict of interest.

Essentially these police are robbers who steal money to fund themselves.

Lawyer Steve Lehto has done a number of videos about the subject. Victims of CAF in Indiana can now have a jury trial. Steve thinks few prosecutors will be willing to take a CAF case to trial, because the chances are good that a jury will decide for the defendant.
