Randann Sargent, the former Calgary police officer guilty of internet luring, has been sentenced to three months house arrest.
Sargent, sentenced Friday afternoon, will be able to leave his house only to go to work.
The judge said Sargent is at low risk to reoffend and that the incident was caused by immaturity, not predatory drive.
The 27-year-old Sargent admitted using a chat service to try to persuade an internet user he thought was a minor to send pictures of herself posing in her underwear. The girl turned out to be an undercover officer.
The Crown prosecutor had asked for a six-month conditional sentence and one year of probation, saying those who lure children on the internet are targetting the most vulnerable, naïve and innocent members of society.
The defence lawyer argued Sargent didn't know he was doing anything wrong, and that the former constable had been punished enough with all the media coverage.
Sargent pleaded guilty in May, and resigned from Calgary police in August.
