Playmates/Pets vs. Pornstars ?

In the past 10 years or so it appears (IMO) that pornstars have overshadowed playmates/penthouse pets. I don't consider the latter to be any more attractive than the hottest pornstars and, quite frankly, I don't find their "all tease, no action" to be a turnon. I know lots of girls that would love to be in Playboy, but I don't know any guys that buy it or even surf the net for it. To me, Playboy is far too old and outdated. It's cache was the forbidden, but now its lagging far behind porn in general. Strong evidence is that Penthouse is going out of business (if it's not already) and both mags suffered HUGE losses when they tried to move to the internet.

Well for some time people do just read playboy for the articles. It can't compete porn wise against a good X publication, or the internet. Any hyped playboy pictorial is posted all over the net in record time. Even with the articles they have plenty of competition with other mags like maxim, GQ, FHM? Tough market.

The first porno I ever saw was my uncles' Penthouses, so hearing they are out of business brings a tear to my cold, perverted eyes.

That's why I stopped subscriping to Playboy. It's too "chessy" and vanilla.

Playboy is the only magazine I subscribe too. Great articles, only mag I can read cover to cover. (I barely look at the pics anymore, prefer the net and or mp's!). But, I do love the college pictorials, real sluts that we could conceivably nail turns me on the most!

I would love a job at Playboy in its marketing department. I think the basic magazine would be an awesome marketing challenge, because it truly has become an anachronism. But even during its heyday, you could always get harder stuff than Playboy. I don't think Playboy ever considered itself a girlie magazine, and never really considered stuff like Penthouse or Hustler to be its competition.

I think the problem with Playboy is that it was always a general men's magazine, and that product space has just gotten too crowded... what used to make Playboy unique, that it was a general men's magazine with a little nudity in it, is just really old hat now.

I think I read somewhere that Playboy had hired some whiz from Maxim in an effort to jazz up the magazine. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. I find Maxim to be extremely puerile at times, but of course, I also think it is damn funny most of the time. And it amazes me how well Maxim attracts such great female talent for its pictorials. The shots of Michelle Branch in the most recent issue... who knew she had such a sweet ass?
