Dropped into the playmate last week. The club was apparently raided a week ago Friday and one customer was removed from the CR in handcuffs for hanky panky. The dancer (who??) apparently was not, just told to leave by the club.

All of the dancers were apparently photographed, had to produce ID and a search for outstanding warrants carried out.

Things were pretty quiet as you might expect.

They also hit Barbarella's earlier the same night. Same procedure.

Was the raid day or night, do we know?

Could it be that the guy arrested was taken away for something other than hobbying, ie, he had a warrant or was carrying something illegal.

Apparently it was in the evening. The guy was getting a hand job in back when it happened and was fully exposed. It was a couple of under cover guys who walked through the champagne room and caught him.

He was led away in cuffs, but I don't know if he was actually charged with anything. They let the girl go. If it was a prostitution charge of some sort it would be tough to only charge one of them. Additionally they wouldn't have evidence that money was exchange for that service, or that public solicitation was happened since they wouldn't have been there for that. In fact she didn't get paid for dances or other services since he was taken out.

They would probably be able to make a case for public indecency, but it is a strip club where the women are naked all the time and the booths are supposed to be private ( that's what you're paying for anyway ) so who knows. My guess is they let him off with a warning.

And how do we know that they were actually cops that took him away , and it wasn't some of his buddies as undercovers taking him away as a prank so he wouldn't have to pay.

Current status at the mate

I will be back through Ottawa later this week or early next week and am wondering about who is still at the Mate and current level of service. Any new candidates for greatness. I am familiar with Talia, Marissa, The Ashley, Angelica etc. Repllies appreciated. PM details

Haven't seen Marissa (daytime) in a while. I'm told, depending who you talk to, Marissa was either barred or got beaten-up in a brawl in another regular bar. If it's the second, I'm told she will be back when her injuries are healed.
I do miss her and hope nothing really bad happened to her. If she got barred, I'd like to know where she's now at.

How does this place compare to Barbarella's on weeknights? Is it pretty dead at this place, or is it busy here every night?

The Playmate is a low-er class of strip bar compared to Barbs. There is the occasional nice looking girl but the rest are a lil cheap,trashy and not really that catching to eye.
I was actually at the Playmate this weekend with a few buds and it smelled so bad of some rotten egg smell. I asked someone there what the problem was it seems they didnt even know where it was coming from??
I should have seen that the place was almost empty and ran then.
We were there 15 min and it really made us feel sick and couldnt understand how some of these girls could stand it?? At the high cost of beer we sucked them down and left.

I suspect the smell is coming from a dried out floor drain and sewer gases are escaping back into the building. Actually very dangerous for your health.

We actually went to Barbs and enjoyed the rest of our nite in a true strip bar.

I don't know what JP is talking about, I was in there last night and it was quite nice. There are many nice girls there and I prefer the atmosphere to that of the Den, or even Pigales which I find too crowded.

I too was there last nite and didnt regret it except for the smell.
I guess you smoke sooo much that your sense of smell has been badly affected??
I didnt put the place down in my posting, I just gave my observation of what it was like that nite and most nites minus the stink in the air.

Well, JP, I don't smoke at all, and therefore that was not affecting my sense of smell. I didn't notice it, maybe it was just the area you were in. <shrug> I do agree that there is a high price at the tap for beverages, but that is the nature of this business. I must admit that I have not frequented Barb's, but I will reiterate that there are several very nice dancers at the 'mate, but they are in high demand and there are definitely some nasty ones too.

The Playmate has 40 years of spunk built up on the walls and carpet. What do you expect ? Try and go in there with a UV light, it'll make you hurl.

I'd have to agree with Clynnog that the better mileage is here or in other "skanky" places. Some nice looking girls but always a couple of low grade ones. There is an older French dancer at the 'Mate (Christine, Chantelle, Celine?) been there forever. Decent body but she must be in her mid-40's. She told me her daughter danced there as well. The best in the region for quality dancers are Barb's, Fax and Pigale's but last time I was at the Fax, dancer didn't even take off her G in the CR. "New rules" she said.

How do you guys feel about the girls "soliciting" for the CR. I don't mind if they come over and sit and chat but this business of "Hi I'm Cierra, would you like a dance?" and then leave if you say maybe later, is ridiculous. If I want a dance, I'll find you. I remember treating a buddy on his birthday by just making eye contact with a dancer at the sitting at the bar. She then came over, discretely took my cash and led him into the CR. When he came out all he could say was "How the f**k did you do that?" If only it was like that all the time.
