The Province of New Brunswick has ordered all schools to play O'Canada daily. This should really piss off the LLL. Remember that idiot school principal who ordered the playing of O'Canada stopped because a couple of immigrant parents hated Canada?
I doubt the JTF kidnapped them from their happy home in Afghanistan and dragged them kicking and screaming to Canada and then held them here against their will and forced their kids to sing O'Canada. BTW I don't think the school ever disclosed the actual names of the two families that complained except to say what terrible people Canadians are because we are trying to protect women's rights in Afghanistan.WoodPeckr said:Did those immigrant parents move to New Brunswick?....
I recall a piece of an old joke, wish I could recall the whole thing but the last few lines were as followsRockslinger said:I doubt the JTF kidnapped them from their happy home in Afghanistan and dragged them kicking and screaming to Canada and then held them here against their will and forced their kids to sing O'Canada. the hymn is not that big of a problem.MYSITEONLY said:They should play O Canada at every school, private or not, otherwise go back to where you came from, we don't want you here.
I have no problem with people not wnting to listen to the state song every morning, comrade. They can stay. Your totalitarian attitude can go though.MYSITEONLY said:They should play O Canada at every school, private or not, otherwise go back to where you came from, we don't want you here.
Acronym for a non-existent unit doesn't really matter, does it? And there is no JTF1, so I don't think anyone would get confused!Hangman said:So much hate and racism disguised as patriotism.
Whether schools play the damn song or not, your getting all butthurt about it doesn't make you better Canadians, and it doesn't make immigrants the bad people you think they are.
You want schools to play the state song? How about every federal, provincial and municipal office?
And its JTF2. Not JTF. When you use the military in your little political arguments, do try to get the acronyms correct.

Some of these are responsibilities of citizenship.Barca said:You know what makes a good Canadian?
It's being a law-abiding citizen.
It's helping your fellow man.
It's contributing to the improvement of each other's lives.
It's being concerned about our environment, in particular how to care for our beautiful country.
It's wanting to make this country better and actually doing something to achieve that.
It has nothing to do with whether you support or insist that a song be sung every day in a half-assed manner.
I have to agree with the points you are making. On the other hand its equally disconcerting to hear an individual or a group petitioning to surpress the anthem. I mean how can anyone be offended ?Barca said:So much fake, forced "patriotism".
Some of the most proud, positive, contributing Canadians I know are those who don't care if these forced, superficial token demonstrations of patriotism happen or not.
And some of the worst Canadians I know are the first to get up in arms over whether the anthem is played.

This anthem issue is such a red herring. Singing the song but then running out and having a negative effect on society does not make you a good Canadian. To me...show me you're a good Canadian by your actions not by whether you force someone else to show their "patriotism".
Ok, thanks.Hangman said:I'm not talking about suppressing anything. There's nothing wrong with wanting to sing O Canada.
