Authorities from across Western New York are rushing to the scene of a plane crash in Clarence Center.

Authorities tell 2 On Your Side the plane went down in the area of Long Street. That's near the intersection of Goodrich and Clarence Center Roads. There's no word on the kind of plane that crashed or the conditions of people on board or on the ground.

Stay with 2 On Your Side and wgrz.com for the latest information.

Asgard
Cause is most likely ice on the wing.

Perhaps we shouldn't speculate until after the facts come out. they need to review the data recorders and voice logs.

news said no mayday call.

Dash is a good plane.

Condolences to the families who lost rellies.

Exactly.

You hear about these crashes and it gives you pause. Can't imagine. I fly all the time. It's always in the back of your head, though statistically, it's safer than flying. But....when it happens, it happens big.

I feel very sorry for these people that were killed. They were just like you or I.

They will figure out the cause of this and hopefully we prevent it from happening again in the future.

SAS and other airlines have had a lot of problems with the Dash airplanes.

PS: I own stock in Bombardier.

Did not know that.

I've flown on them many times here for cross lakes puddle jumper flights.

It was mainly landing gear problems that caused a few non-lethal crashes.

Landing gear problems, that preliminary investigation indicates, was the result of maintenance problems.

Also interesting that SAS ordered a bunch of the NextGen Q400.

SAS has promised not to fly Dash8 Q400 anymore and have sold 12 of it's
27 grounded dash8 Q400 planes.
Maybe they need to clear some hangar space for the new ones.

SAS did pull the Dash 8 Q400 from service in 2007, but I think after the settlement they ordered 14 more Q400 planes (maybe with new landing gear?)

Bombardier settles claim with SAS over Q400 turboprops

Last Updated: Monday, March 10, 2008 | 4:12 PM ET Comments0Recommend14CBC News

Bombardier Aerospace said Monday it has settled claims over incidents last year in which landing gear on some of its turboprop Q400 aircraft collapsed.

The company said the claims with SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Goodrich, the maker of the landing gear, "have come to a mutually satisfactory agreement."

SAS will get about one billion Swedish kronor, or about $160 million Cdn, in compensation. The compensation is reported to be in the form of cash and discounts on aircraft orders.

In September and October of 2007, there were three reported incidents involving landing gear malfunctions on SAS Q400 aircraft.

The airline initially grounded the planes and then pulled them out of its fleet. SAS, the flagship carrier of Sweden, Denmark and Norway, sought more than $70 million in compensation following the incidents.

In conjunction with the settlement, Bombardier said SAS and three of its affiliate airlines — Estonian Air, Norway's Wideroe's Flyveselskap A/S and Latvia's airBaltic — have signed a firm order to buy 27 regional jets and turboprops and taken options on another 24 aircraft.

The value of the firm order for 13 CRJ900 NextGen aircraft and 14 Q400 NextGen turboprops is roughly $883 million US. The value of the orders could increase to approximately $1.75 billion US if all the options are exercised.

I don't know how many times I have to post, that SAS promised never to fly
Dash 8 Q400's again. They bought some as part of the compensation from Bombardier,
and are selling them, or maybe leasing them. They will not be flown under SAS flag.

SAS are happily flying some CRJ jets from Bombardier.

PS: for full disclosure, I am declaring that I own stock in Bombardier.
