Are the drugstores up there short of aspirin? Our Wal Mart is out (except for "headache powders", which are enough to gag a maggot) and pharmacies have short supplies, limited selection and much higher prices. Can I do better if I make a trip to CA? Anybody trade a couple of bottles of Bufferin for half a dozen bags of bugles?

What about the Walmart Equate ASA? Same thing although I did have Aspirin as a kid and loved it.
I like to have a small bottle(sometimes hard to find a small bottle) of fresh ASA around.
Don't usually need it, but when I do, it is fantastic.
Often very hard to find things in Toronto. I had to visit five drug stores today to finally get some Murine Ear Drops for excessive ear wax.

Damn, are these drug shortages real or contrived?

Looks like I'll be crossing the bridge soon. Thanks for the tip on ASA, I think that may be one of the OTC items not available in the states (different regs), but I'll check when I go to SDM. I don't think anything is contrived OT supply chain issues keep cropping up. There is a war on, after all...

As I have anemia I can't use Aspirin. I do keep a bottle of 81mg Aspirin in my home and in my car just in case my heart attacks me (hasn't happened yet, but I'm old), as it is recommended to chew 2 of them asap if a person is feeling the symptoms of a heart attack, as a "clot buster". Aspirin is associated with internal bleeding so not recommended for casual use if that's an issue.

If I have a headache I take a 500mg Tylenol/Acetaminophen capsule, which is usually effective. Far less likely to cause internal bleeding (even less likely to cause bleeding as compared to Advil/Ibuprofen), but Tylenol can damage your liver with even a mild overdose, so I make sure to not exceed the dosage directions on the package.

I also keep to chew in case of heart attack. As for the bleeding, I read that it was exaggerated as a marketing ploy way back for I believe Bufferin.
But maybe that is a problem for some people.

I've been taking Aspirin 81 for a year now. I and the doc didn't notice any bleeding. I currently still have a small supply on hand so I'm good for a few more days.

I believe a daily Aspirin 81 is recommended for people who have potential heart issues. As long as your hemoglobin count is within the acceptable range the daily 81mg Aspirin regimen is probably protective.

As long as your doctor is ok with it the reward is worth the small risk.

I was having some chronic moderate shoulder pain issues due to calcium buildup. My GP said he would consider putting me on pain medication, but that with my anemia the likelihood of further hemoglobin count deterioration would be potentially dangerous and not worth the risk just to reduce my shoulder discomfort. Since then I have greatly reduced my usage of calcium based heartburn tablets, and my shoulder pain has disappeared.

I bought 81 mg low dose aspirin at wally world last week. Bayer were 19.95 for 120, Equate was 14.95
We can still get low dose (baby aspirin), but you have to take 8 or 10 to equal a couple of regular aspirin...

Aspirin or ASA is not prescribed anymore for pain relief at around 325 mg for the analgesic effect. There are better and more effective non steroidal anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen or Naproxen without the ASA association with Reyes Syndrome with infants .
Aspirin is now prescribed for adults at 81 mg aka “baby Aspirin “ as an anti-platelet inhibitor to make it easier for the heart to pump blood for those with cardiovascular disease.
Why are you taking Aspirin and was it prescribed ?
