Just got a call on my land line. The number came up as "Unknown Name" and the number was 1-844-2888-0713.
As usual, I never answer any number such as the above. 99 times out 100, they never leave a voice mail. This one was different. There was a robo call voicemail stating that it was the Canadian Revenue Agency and the following message (which was partially cut off).
"so in the next 24 hours we will be marking a lien on [pause] your assets and bank accounts due to your inability to [pause] settle your dues with the CRA. A bill collection officer will visit you soon to complete that. [pause] Paper works. [pause] If you have any questions, then call our tax default [pause] line"
So this is different......
So I called the number and a guy with a thick east Indian accent answers the phone and I tell him about the voice mail. I can hear typing and talking in the background and I ask if this is the Canada Revenue Agency and he says yes, it's the "CRA in Ottawa". And I say, "Is this the Canada Revenue Agency?" And he says, it's "The CRA". I say, well, that's odd because the CRA is based in Sudbury not Ottawa.
He just hung up.

The CRA would never call initially about a tax issue, they mail.
If you did call the CRA, they would never hang up.
The CRA's phone would offer services in both French and English.
