Phantom Tag

I'm sure we all saw the "phantom tag" in the Twins/ Yankees game.
Wonder how many times this happens?
Is it just a case of the ball beating you to the bag?

It doesn't happen much, but yes, the ball beat him - the Umpire would have needed incontrovertible evidence to call him out.

Sorry - I meant the ump would have needed incontrovertible evidence to call him *safe*, when the throw beat him by that much.

No matter what position the ump is in, there are going to be angles he's not going to be able to see.
