It will be on WNED Buffalo-Toronto TV, again today at 4PM.

Just a head's up. I watched it last night on TV.
It was pretty good covering their music history and songs.
If you are a folk music fan it's definitely worth watching or even recording....

Thanks for the head's up. I watched it. Love Mary's voice and golden hair.
When will we have another singer like her?
The answer my friend, is "blowing in the wind".

It was pretty good.
Liked the duet version Richie Havens did of Peter Yarrow's song, The Great Mandella.

They sang my first favorite song, Puff the Magic Dragon. I think I was 4 or 5 and must have driven my Mom and Dad nuts by asking them to play it over and over. Great harmonies that inspired many other groups including the Mamas and the Papas.

PBS goes overboard with folk music, big band, doo wop - their audience average age must be about 75.
They don't have many entertainment shows that appeal to young people, do they?

Was it PBS or A&E that use to put on these music specials? I remember Barry "Mandy" Mandalo (check spelling), Neil "Sweet Caroline" Diamond and I think John Denver and a couple of others. Do you guys have any clue of what I speak?

Folk Music was Great

Hard to pick one song. They had so many great ones.

My favs were, Blowin' in the Wind and Where Have All the Flowers Gone?
Leaving on a Jet Plane, was a great song that also brings back memories for for me.
Puff, the Magic Dragon and The Marvelous Toy, was other favs along with 500 Miles.
If I had a Hammer, became almost the theme song of the 60s' along with The Times They Are A-Changin’.

Then there is, It's Raining, Day Is Done, Too Much of Nothing, Stewball, Early Morning Rain, (great song which sounds like an early version of Leaving on a Jet Plane) For Loving Me, Don't Think Twice It's All Right, to mention a few. Listening to them all right now.
Wish Folk Music would make a comeback.

Musically their 3 voices were fantastic, something sorely lacking in most Pop artists today.

OMG, brings back so many fond memories. They don't write songs or make singers like those anymore. "Early Morning Rain" is another favourite of mine.

The songs nowaday are like 200 decibels too loud and every second word is "fuck" or "bitch":(. This is a sign that mankind is in its final half century.

No, I am not 75, only 74 and a half.

Not enough channels out there for you, huh?

Am I wrong?
Has PBS ever had a music special with any artist from the last 10 years?

Don't get me wrong, I'm an old guy with old tastes (yes even folk) but this station is really going for the elderly demographics - not fair if they use public funding.

They don't use public funding, it is all donations. They are like a Charity, and they hit this Demographic as they can afford it. They do some great things and it doesn't cost the tax payers. They want you to buy/support some great TV.:)

The Public Broadcasting System doesn't get government funding? lol
Sorry, I think you are wrong. Why do you think they were selling DVD's and CD's for outrageous funds when you can down load for free. These guys are legit. I have known people who have sent these guys money on a regular basis for 25 years. I hope they keep up the good work.

What young artists today are even worth featuring there???
Sadly most today lack any real talent. They mistake noise for music.

Here's an example:

Peter Paul & Mary - Early Morning Rain (1966)

This is a 'decent cover' of that hit. However the version off their album Peter, Paul & Mary, The Best Of Peter, Paul And Mary: Ten Years Together, is much better.
Who do our younguns have to match their caliber of talent?......;)

I agree Woody, but we both have tastes of an older generation.

What was it Chuck Berry sang, Roll Over Beethoven? He announced it was time for the young to take over.

Sad but true. Where are the Barry Manilows, Neil Diamonds, John Denvers, Peter, Paul and Mary, Beatles, Elvis "Wise Men Say" Presley, of to-day? The leopards of yesteryears are replaced by the jackasses of to-day:(.

The last decent song I heard is "Wind Beneath My Wings" from the "Beaches" soundtrack sung by Bette Midler.

Norah Jones who began with her 2002 debut album Come Away with Me, an adult contemporary vocal jazz album with a soul/folk/country tinge, shows promise.

Michael Bublé shows a lot of promise to. If he plays his cards right he could become another Sinatra. I have 6 of his albums, he's good.

Most of today's artists that have any real talent are doing Jazz because of the abysmal state Pop is in today. Rock ain't much better....:(

A good song should tell a story about life and love. "Leaving on a Jet Plane" is an example of such a song. I really feel sorry for the kids (and me) of to-day because of the crap that passes for "songs/music". Our lives are so much poorer because of it.:(
