Apologies if these questions have been asked before.

1) How safe is using Paypal?
2) Does Paypal charge a fee to the purchaser or only the vendor?
3) If my credit card is in Canadian dollars but the vendors wants U.S. dollars, how is the exchange rate sorted out?
4) What about stuff like customs duties, GST and Ontario retail sales tax?
5) If I purchase porn, will the RCMP pay me a personal visit? I suppose it is ok to purchase an AK47, but porn means I could be a menace to society (you know, naked women).

1) I have never had a problem in 5 yrs of using it. It is as safe as using your credit card. If you purchase on ebay, there is buyer protection in case of an incorrect item being shipped.
2) It charges a fee to the vendor just like a credit card company does to a retailer
3) When you make your purchase, it uses whatever the rate is for that moment in time
4) All that stuff is calculated when the item enters canada and is charged by RevCan. A brokerage fee could be charged depending on how you ship: couriers typically charge anywhere from $50.00 - $100.00 USPS doesn't charge you anything. Duty shouldn't be a problem if the items are manufacturer or their country of origin is the US (due to free trade).
5) You will only get visited by the RCMP if the porn you purchase is illegal ie: child porn. Review the criminal code to determine if what you are purchasing is illegal.

.
Paypal's USD to Canadian $ exhange rate is applied and usually it is less favourable and you ended up paying a bit more.

I don't agree, in fact, I have found their rates to be better than the quoted price on msn money.com......but then again, I have mostly used that for US purchases on ebay......

Just don't buy or sell anything sexual or they can cancel your account and hold your funds for 6 months. Very strict non adult policy for the last few years.

I know since I used them for the Phoenix Private List and had a lot of funds frozen for six months as have many others.

Why am I not surprised? Probably easier to buy a rocket launcher than pics of nude women.
Don't laugh but there have been tales of marine/military hazard chemical warfare suits being sold on ebay......

I use google checkout now...PayPal royally fucked me over on an eBay transaction when I sold an authentic wallet that the buyer claimed was counterfeit...basically they reversed the charges and told the seller to mail the wallet back...they did...but it was not the one I mailed out..after talking with Paypal on the phone from Dec until this March, finally gave up..i know my situation is rare, but the fact these asshole sided with a new account holder over my account which is 9yrs old totally fucken irked me...I'll take my business elsewhere and now have a choice...Google.
