Listening to a Master’s Journey of life

You may know or have listened to Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, etc. They are all from Tchaikovsky (1840 ~ 1893) – one of the greatest classical music composers from Russia.
One day I got a chance to admire some of his masterpieces presented by TSO at Royal Thomson Hall, Conductor- Peter Oundjian.
First, Waltz and Polonaise from opera Eugene Onegin (1877-1878)
It is the most popular music of his 11 operas, full of delightfulness and passion.
Next, Violin Concerto in D Major (1878), it is just sentimental, sometimes joyful and lively. It is considered one of the most technically difficult works for the violin and always in the repertoires of famous violinists. This work was not welcome at the beginning, with time it has become one of the most performed concertos ever written.
Last, Symphony No.6 in B Minor, “Pathetique” (1893), his final and greatest symphony. Sadly, 9 days after the premiere, he was dead. This music is filled with sadness and frustration, it mirrors composer’s suffering fate. It was mixed with conflict, desperation and finally despairing and death in soul. There are many assumptions about his death. But its mysteriousness might stay forever.
