Anyone have any experience painting parquet flooring. I did a lot of research and it looks pretty easy to do. Well maybe not extremely easy but I am a handy person. I may not be a professional (i.e. I can't rebuild a car motor or install industrial electrical panels or industrial pumps etc) however I can easily fill and patch the floor, sand it and paint it. And I do have the proper tools/ equipment so I feel comfortable being able to do the work. I have also done lots of research on line and all the pictures seem to look OK and I checked local hardware stores (Rona, Home Depot, Lowes etc) and see there is proper paint for wood floors so I feel comfortable being able to do this on my own. What concerns me is the outcome

All pictures on line seem to look OK when complete however they are only pictures and some are not close up. Further research I also came across a lot of people stating it doesn't look good up close and live, not as good as the pictures and wears out fast. My floor is bad so I don't think I could make it worse by trying to paint it. My only concern is do I want to spend the time and money trying this out only to have it not look good then spend some more time and money putting in carpet or replacing the floor.

Anyone ever paint a parquet floor. Did it look OK? Did it wear out quickly? Would you recommend? Any information you can share is appreciated

You don't state what constitutes bad. Please consider refinishing to restore the natural beauty of the wood if at all possible.
I'm not sure how much thickness you have to work with but you have to sand anyway. I suspect you will not be happy with the one dimensional look that paint will give you. Better to replace the floor if you find out you can't restore. I've never done parquet but recently redid a pine plank third floor that had been hidden under lino for many decades with spectacular results. Good luck my friend.

Any wood floor, painted, stained, varathane, I don't care.
It is going to chip, scratch, wear.
Maintenance, care and protection is what works.

The only floor I've painted is a concrete floor in a laundry room. If its a high traffic area, it will wear.

If you are thinking of replacing, I've used Allure flooring from Home Depot....its a vinyl plank, and really easy to put in. I have done a few bathrooms and kitchens with it, and it's durable and looks good too.
