Parking Tickets in Ottawa and Toronto

Have hads some recent unlucky experiences with parking meters while vistiing some SP's.

Looking for some feedback on what happens in Canada if you dont pay one or two of these nice tickets, especially if your car does not have Canadian license plates.

You should be out of juristriction (sp) so dont think you can be held accountable for anything. A friend of mine came from Vancouver and had a couple of speeding tickets under his name. But it doesnt show up on his ontario drivers license.

It gets turned over to a private collection agency who might even try to seize your vehicle next time you visit if you dont pay.

This sounds pretty unlikely. What do they do roam the city looking for cars? Can they actually seize your car for one unpaid parking ticket?

In Chicago, it takes at least for tickets before they put the Denver boot on your car, and thats only after you get another parking ticket.

Thought I had it bad in the US, surely the laws in Canada are not that strict!

how does unpaid parking tickets in TO affect your renewing your driving licence or insurance ?

I don't THINK it affects your insurance, but I know outstanding parking tickets prevent you from renewing your licence plate sticker and I assume the same is true for your DL.

if you have unpaid tickets they could refuse entry. Worse case, change license plates. But nothing will show up on DMV computer this much I can tell you, I'm assuming you're American.

They can't refuse you entry to the US for unpaid parking tickets.

They can refuse you only if the offence is one of moral turpitude. or somthing like that, which translates to criminal code charges.

INS has their own interpretation of canadian criminal law. If you have a theft under and got a condition discharge instead of an absolute discharge, you may or may not get in depending on the border guard.
