Associated Press LAS VEGAS, NEV.—The district attorney in Las Vegas says Paris Hilton will avoid jail time on drug charges under the terms of a plea deal worked out with prosecutors.

Clark County District Attorney David Roger said Friday that Hilton has agreed to plead guilty Monday to two misdemeanours stemming from her Aug. 27 arrest in Las Vegas.

Hilton was arrested inside the Wynn resort, after police say a small plastic bag containing 0.8 grams of cocaine fell out of her Chanel purse as she reached for a tub of lip balm in front of a police lieutenant.

A copy of the plea agreement obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal shows Hilton will plead guilty to drug possession and obstructing an officer to avoid two consecutive six month-sentences in the Clark County Detention Center.

Instead, Hilton will serve a year of probation.

The heiress agreed to pay a $2,000 fine and complete 200 hours of community service

Paris Hilton pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor offences in a Las Vegas court today - drug possession and obstructing a public officer.

The heiress agreed to pay a $2,000 fine and complete 200 hours of community service.

Hilton was warned by Judge Joe Bonaventure that if she is arrested for anything more than a minor traffic violation she faces one year in Clark County Detention Centre.

In case she was in any doubt, Bonaventure told Hilton: 'The Clark County Detention Center is not the Waldorf Astoria.' :p

Hilton was also ordered to complete an 'intensive' substance abuse program and was warned by Bonaventure that she must change her behaviour.

Today's court appearance stems from Hilton's August 27 arrest for possessing cocaine.

Hilton pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors - drug possession and obstructing an officer - as part of a plea deal worked out with prosecutors

Hilton initially denied the cocaine was hers, claiming the handbag it was in belonged to somebody else.
But as part of a plea deal Hilton accepted responsibility in return for no jail sentence.

The 29-year-old arrived early to court, accompanied by her attorney, David Chesnoff.
She was dressed smartly in a beige blouse and black dress and appeared to be in a solemn mood.

also, isn't she supposed to have other people carrying this shit for her?

Insightful comments.

I mean, if it was Keith Richards being busted (again) for drugs, I'd feel sympathy for him and look on his persistent drug use as an act of noncomformity and rebellion.

It's just that Paris and Lindsay are so..... spoiled.

has now been denied entry into Japan.
Gee, she has a criminal drug conviction and currently has an open criminal sentence. Is anyone other than Paris surprised by her being barred from entry to Japan? She is going to find that her travel options for a great many destinations besides Japan are limited.

Canadians in the similar circumstances seem to have difficulties only with crossing US border. It was my understanding that all the other countries in the world have no way of knowing about your criminality, and the vast majority of them do not require a visa, so you would not even have to lie in your application.

It is like people entering Canada not being asked if they have ever been convicted of DUI/OUI/OWI. Just because they weren't asked doesn't mean that they can legally enter Canada. In her case it is the flip side of "celebrity" everyone knows.

She is discovering the down side of not thinking that rules aply to her. The Japanese govt refused her entry do to a drug conviction.

Perhaps she will grow up but I am not holding my breath

Looking at her talents, the only thing that I think she can do for community service is BJ's on homeless guys.
She could show up and screen her sex tape for film appreciation night at the local Salvation Army shelter lol

She's already had three convicitions. She's racking up quite the long list of a criminal record. I guess having nothing to do all day can be harmful to your behavior.

- sigh -
