Sometimes kids grow up to be successful even with dumb parents. They are still young and there is still time for them to do something useful.

Thumb's up to the parents. The kid isn't going to learn anything in class while daydreaming about guitar hero. At 16 he can start making some decisions on his own, and thus start learning some responsibility. He'll learn squat by staying in school if he doesn't want to be there, and he'll be resentful to boot. Sometimes an unorthodox solution is necessary.
