Outlook Help

Hey Techie types...

I am considering switching from a Treo to Blackberry, which means switching from the Palm desktop to Outlook, which I am not crazy about. My problem is that my Outlook 2000 is all crapped up with various old memos and stuff from an earlier attempt to start using it. When I fire it up now, I get about 14,000 reminders and so on...

So my question is this: Is there an easy way to "zero" Outlook... delete all of the existing info in and return it to a virgin state. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but that data is more persistant than herpes...

The Microsoft help has something about reconfiguring the registry but cautions that I might fry the operating system if I screw it up. Surely there must be an easier way!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

S

Best advice, don't use Outlook.

Uninstall Outlook. Do a system search on *.pst (mailbox files), delete any that are found. Unless you are sharing the PC with someone else that is using Outlook then delete only the pst file that belongs to you.

That would be my preference... But as I understand it, that's all that Blackberry sycs to... Or is that not right?

I assumed that that would just get rid of mail messages. Will it get rid of appointments, reminders, memos etc as well?

Thanks guys...

I am fairly sure it will sync with Lotus Notes as well, but in my opinion that is even worse than Outlook....

You would assume wrong. All the stuff is stored together.

Only if you're on a BES server.

Trust me, the best option a non-technical person has, using a BB, is synching with Outlook.

Stoo: Another thing you may want to try is to just delete the MAPI profile. Go to start...control panels...mail

Click Profile... then delete the one(s) that are there. Setting up a new one, afterwards.

Mission accomplished.... Now that I have it sorted out, I can fully appreciate it's cumbersome nature~ :(

Anyone had a Treo AND a Blackberry? Is it worth switching just to get "push" mail?
Actually yes, if getting mail asap is important to you. Setting a Palm (or any non-BB device) to check mail at frequent intervals counts towards your data plan, even if there's no mail to be received. It adds up, trust me. Furthermore, unless you disable the setting, mail attachements get downloaded too (in the BB, you have to click to DL the attachement).

With the BB, you have the BB Internet Service which checks your mail server for you at 15 min intervals, then sends any mail to your device...hence no useless data transfers.

The transfer is instantaneous if you use a yahoo email address (RIM and yahoo have a partnership)

It all boils down to what you use your PDA for. If communication is your main focus, RIM can't be beat. If you need specialised applications, you go with Palm. If file sharing between your PDA and your PC is important, you go with Windows Mobile.

When I went with the Treo, it was based on familiarity with the Palm stuff, plus "mostly" I wanted a phone that could also do email. These days, it's all email... so I think I will probably make the change. I could use the international roaming feature, although I understand the charges can be nasty...
