My outlook file which is over 2 Gigs seems to be corrupted.
First upon opening it says:
"Properties for this information service must be defined prior to use"
Then it says:
"Errors have been detected in file .... Quit all mail enabled applications and then us the Inbox Repair Tool."

I can still open other pst files just not the main one. I can't find the Inbox Repair Tool. The "Detect and Repair" Tool only repairs an open pst file.

Anybody know how I can repair my pst file?

And as a preemptive strike "yes, I should have bought a MAC".

What version of Outlook?

You can get to the Inbox Repair Tool by going to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\ and double-clicking scanpst.exe

</Outlook 2003>

Let me know if it works, so I can send you a bill.

P.S. - Google is your friend. That's all I used to find the answer for you.

Unfortunately, it didn't work, the scan crashed. I think the file is screwed. Anyways let me know where I can send the payment for your hard work done. In lieu of a payment I can also make a donation to the "Save the Screech Owl Foundation".

The file is fine. Outlook 2000 PST files (Personal Folders) have a size limit of 2 GB's that you've reached. You need a utility from Microsoft that will cut a small piece of the file out and make it usable again. You can download the utility from the link below. After you run the utility you'll be able to access your old messages, but still need to archive your old messages to another PST file or create a new PST file for your new emails. Outlook 2003 PST files don't have this size limit.

That will be $100 please...

Hey thanks, that's cool, I'll try this. btw, are you a MS tech?

What if I upgrade to Outlook 2003? Would I be able to open the old pst file without problem?

Regarding the 100 dollars, I would be happy to oblige, but Goober instead has offered to provide you a Freebie since his solution didn't work.

I used to be. Upgrading to Outlook 2003 won't change the file format or let you get past the size restriction, but you could create a new PST in Outlook 2003 and then copy all the data from the old one to the new Outlook 2003 PST, which doesn't have the limit.

Thanks, but I'll pass on Goober.

Hey Shawnbg, you saved my butt. I truncated 1 Meg and got just about everything back. Thanks a million.

You should consider setting up a MS help line. Make some real cash.

LOL. Thanks. Glad it worked out. Did you upgrade to Outlook 2003 or just create a new Outlook 2000 PST?

There are many types of similar troubles. But the way of solving almost all of them is the current program. It recommended some specialists from Microsoft if their tools can't manage - pst recovery.

You join TERB today.

Your first post is resurrecting a 6 year old obscure thread and posting (in bad English) an unknown hyperlink with no explanation.

I don't dare click on that link.
