I don't know if anybody knows but the largest pizza joint here in Ontario has a delivery charge of $2.75 for every delivery placed. Doe anyone know where that charge goes to? I will explain later!

It can work two ways.
If the driver is independent or the company employs freelance drivers, then the money goes to them.
If the company employees payrolled drivers, the drivers get a wage and the delivery charge goes to the restaraunt.
Pretty simple, no?

Without knowing the specific company, I can tell you how the food delivery business works generally.
The restaurant does not have it's own drivers and cars. It's too expensive and too much liability.
Delivery is subcontracted to a service, a loose co-op of independants. A central dispatch and gypsy drivers in their own cars. The fee is split between driver and dispatch, around 70/30. The driver gets the bigger piece as he has more expenses.
That fee is nowhere near the actual cost and the restaurant is charged another $1-$2. Therefore the customer is paying $2.75 and the restaurant is paying $2.00 in order for you to get your food delivered.

Actually, I've never paid to have any food delivered as I always meet the minimum amount required for free delivery.

I think that applies to the smaller franchaises, not with PP.

You may want to check the bill again the next time you order, tboy.

It's always good to know what other knows about this.

Wait a minute. My gas bill (both natural and auto) has doubled in the last year costing me an extra couple of thousand and you are investigating the cost allocation of 2 dollars for delivery?

I wasn't trying to sound sny or anything. It was a remark.
I hope you didn't take offence to it.

Pizza Pizza has their own drivers. Most of the time, Pizza Pizza is a family run franchise. Mom and Pop buy a franchise and then the family works there. Cousins, brothers, sisters, what have you. I'm pretty sure the drivers of the bigger companies have a wage plus the delivery bonus. I can't remember exactly but I did have a buddy who had a job for a pizza shop. He beat the crap out of his car doing deliveries so he quit. The above was his pay structure. I think he was paid x dollars for every stop. Some nights were good, some were bad.

Civic: from the chinese food place, just the charge for the food, The last time I ordered from Pizza Pizza all I saw was the pie and the dipping sauce....I didn't see any extra delivery charge as per their advertised "price includes delivery". Maybe it is hidden in the cost of the food but as I said, I've never paid for delivery. I can rephrase that however and say that I have never paid extra for delivery......

Dude, why don't you just come out and say what it is you want to say?

Grrrr

The corporations...they take it ALL! Take Hell for example...all those small 6-10 dollar extras you can have on your phone line do add up! In the grand scheme of things, this is how it works...corporations only exist because they figure out ways to take our money...and for some fantastic pizza with a free delivery to those who live out in Yorkville or in it's surrounding areas, Classic Pizza by Pachio! Located almost opposite Pusateri's of Yorkville and next to the Mr. Sub there. They do free delivery, and know how to make a REAL pizza...Pachio is a designer store next door run by Italians, they decided to make some good pizza too to keep people like me happy! My personal favourite is Pesto Sauce base, with Goat Cheese, Barbecued Chicken Breast, Artichokes, Broccolli, Spinnach, Sundried Tomatoes...open to modification, but made like that mmmmmmm yummm!

I wouldn't use telcos as an example for corporations "taking" your money. They have suffered and will continue to suffer with Vonage coming on. The way I see it, if corporations get greedy there will be somebody else offering the same thing for a better price. Ahh, one of the few positives of capitalism.

Evolution

Capitalism breeds corporate evolution. Unfortunately Vonage relies on Bell for the actual infrastructure. The ironical part is that. Who else owns the actual phone lines LMAO. Also Bell themselves, when you make a call, more often than not, your call goes through a VO-IP adapter at some point, that's how they cut costs too. For the time being, phone lines are necessary. If Bell wanted to survive, they should charge customers using Vonage or Vonage themselves a bandwith fee, that would cover their loss of income. I don't condone that, but as an option it's available. Prior to Vonage coming, Bell just basically plundered and pillaged, just short of raping LMAO. Now that Vonage has turned up, we'll see what happens. As for Bell, they sent me a bill, 4 months of usage - 2000 bucks plus. Finally after reconciling their poor accounting system, we settled on 862. Funny how that works. They send an oversold bill to a company like IBM, they just pay it, and they know they're paying extra, but it's more cost efficient to pay that then to pay for a seperate department to analyze such bills coming into the company.

From Pizza to Phone service

Anyhow, all I really wanted to say is that I deliver for Pizza Pizza as my part time job. We get $6.50 an hour plus whatever tips we can get from the customers. Now the hourly wage varies with different stores but they are around the $6.00-$7.00 range which is a little less than minimum wage. With tips, it works out to anywhere from $12 to $15 an hour. We have to pay for gas but because the area of coverage is so small, it really doesn't put a dent to your pay in terms of gas.
Now let's focus on the delivery charge part. A lot of customers misunderstand the fact the the delivery charge goes to the driver. Because it's already a whopping $2.75, they don't give tips on top of the charge. I have had way too many incidents when customers would say, " oh...you got a $2.75 tip already & so why should I pay you extra? ( no pun intended :D ) ".
So I investigated with a few of my colleagues in my full time job. When they call into the call centre ordering pizza, THEY were also informed that the charge goes to the driver. I think that this is not fair. If you don't want to give a tip, that's fine. However, if the reason for not giving out tips was some misunderstanding, it should be clarified.
I even had a colleague who used to work for Pizza Pizza ordering desk who was told to advise customers that "the charge is to facilitate the delivery expense of the individual store." I guess they changed their scriptings now. With the result shown, I also believe that there are many out there who believe the charge goes to the drivers.
I just want to make us Terbites be aware of the situation. When you have an outcall at a hotel & would like to order Pizza after the session, pls give good tips not only the SP, but also the driver.
