It is not a mystery why nurses are leaving. They are overworked, face brutal working conditions, and a decade of wage suppression has been locked in even further by Bill H-124 which caps wage increases to 1% annually, amounting to less than 50 cents/hour.

Interesting how they didn't touch on the fact that CERB had a lot to do with nurses leaving when the pandemic hit. But I wouldn't expect the Star to criticize the Federal program.

Many decided to quit and collect an income for sitting at home rather than continue to work. The same thing happened in LTC homes. As many as 35% of them just stayed home. My source is a friend who's a manager in charge of 50 nurses and another who's a director of a LTC home in the city.

nurses are well paid even as an rpn. rns even more. when you start minimum at over 50k a year thats higher than the average wage out there. shift premiums, lieu in benefits, golden handshake retirement, collective bargaining.

they dont make as much as a teacher but they are doing very well.

my one beef though is that nurses are expected to take the vaccine which I dont agree with..

If Universal Basic Income happens wait till you see how many people leave the workforce and “retire”.
UBI has nobler goals in mind, but I believe it will run into the reality of human nature. Sure, some people would use it to further their education. Some would take better care of their elderly parents or children. Perhaps a handful would write a bestselling novel or become a great artist.

However, the reality is the vast majority will just become idle and that idleness will likely not be healthy for them and society long-term.

When you get money doing nothing it's unbelievable how fast you suddenly do not have time for work anymore!

Cerb should have been like wellfare. If there are jobs available you must take them. You must keep looking for work.
