my understanding is;

exchanging sex for money in Canada is totally legal.

Public communication for the purposes of prostitution is illegal (i.e. blatant advertising, explicit emails, street walking...etc)

living on the avails of prostitution is illegal ( being a pimp )

and there are a few around the "common bawdy house" definition that make it illegal to work in, own, or be a patron of. (in call locations)

The really trickey part concerns the definition of "Common bawdy house." It has been held that if a girl habitually uses an outdoor park area, that is a bawdy house!!! Online ads and those in the paper are legal as they are not solicitations, merely advertisements.

I can understand that. Not from a logical point of view but from because the laws seem to be designed to keep this kind of activity out of the public eye. So the laws seem to be crafted fairly well to achieve that goal.

In essence they have recourse if someone complains about it but other than that, no problem.

Obviously an in call location that doesn't change (an apartment, or house) would be riskier than a hotel room.

I still think we'd be better off with the whole business being decriminalized or even legalized.

It's because of people putting papers in the blue box instead of the black one that they raise taxes.
