I read an article in todays Toronto Star sports section that quoted DeLa Hoya saying that the UFC is not a sport but simply a fad.

Liddell then responded by saying that he could drop any boxer in a second.

I really don't understand why DelaHoya would make such a comment on the eve of a big UFC fight in Vegas. I am not a UFC fan but I do understand athleticism when I see it -and the UFC fighters have it. From watcjing and following boxing for years and from the few matches I've seen in the UFC -I hate to say it but, a boxer would get skulled in the ring in a UFC match. It's not even the same sport, IMO; so I guess DelaHoyas' comments for me, were a bit troubling and totally out of line.

In the old UFC matches I loved to see when the boxers would fight the mix martial artists. The boxers could take a punch but they would always lose.

I absolutely hate this debate... it's always gotta be a boxer in a UFC ring... put a MMA in a boxing ring... then you'll laugh hard at the MMA.

it all depends on which sport you train and excel in.

very true, I believe a boxer will destroy an MMA fighter in a boxing ring and vice versa.

Just like a hockey player and a football comparison. basketball vs. golf. etc.

All sports have different skill sets that players develop through years of training.

However, I do not like the comment made by De la Hoya because it is ignorant on his part. I believe he does not like the uprise of the UFC because he has alot of financial interests in boxing.

He is a boxer and an owner with Gorlden Boy promotions, DLH does not want to see UFC get any bigger than it is already.

Couldn't agree more. MMA guys wouldn't last a round in a boxing match - the feints, speed, power, angles and explosiveness just aren't there. I also hate the MMA guys are more badass than boxer comments. Well yeah, on soft surfaces, but on concrete, that pretty much negates the ground game. Anyway, just my beef. Different sports so please don't compare.

Regarding Oscar's comments, he is just trying to raise controversy similar to Mayweather. Don't read too much into it. MMA is here to stay. What bothers me more is the salary disparity. MMA guys need to get paid more, in line to what these boxers are making, especially since their PPV buys are through the roof.
