The new Ontario Staycation Tax Credit is now in effect. If you are a hobbyist or provider, save those hotel receipts. You'll get a 20% tax credit on your income tax, up to $200 for individuals and $400 for families. A little bonus at tax time, to pass on to your favorite MA, SP, or Gatineau ballerina. It doesn't seem fair that those cheating on their spouses can get more than single folks.

For a gent with such financial savvy, it seems you haven't yet figured out that those with wives NEED more than us single folks....just sayin'...

Just readin' the news. You're right, although married folks will likely have to keep their receipts hidden from their spouse. The gov't release says that hotels, motels, resorts, lodges, B&B's, cottages, and campgrounds qualify as long as it's short term (less than a month). Actually, I remember once there was an SP working out of the Rideau Heights Campground near the Hunt Club Bridge. She's still on VIPFavours. I guess it was BackPage back then.

Does that apply to the 2021 fiscal year?
Can we claim it on our 2021 tax return?

Don't usually get financial advice on TERB, but this sounds interesting and promising.

Did some quick research, doesn't look like the Staycation Tax Credit is retroactive to 2021.

Good to go in 2022, though. Twenty percent is a bit low, but better than nothing.

It's brand new. Jan 1, 2022. If you're doing it anyway, it's a free $200 (or maybe $400). Providers too, if they do their taxes. So start saving those hotel receipts. Here's the official link:
