Like many of my fellow Terbites, I too won't forgive McGuinty for his many broken promises. He can justify all he wants including the ignorance plea that he was unaware of Ontario’s $500 million plus deficit when he took power, but ignorance doesn’t equate to innocence. I tried this trick the last time I was caught speeding and didn’t get away with it. If my ignorance plea didn’t work under the legal system, McGuinty’s shouldn’t either.
But what are my options?
Tories would have got my vote except for its stance to fund all faith-based schools. I have nothing against religious believes. But to spend some $500 million to do this without having to raise taxes, leave alone phasing out the some $900 million health tax (as Tories has promised), is another vote-getting motivated bullshit promise that will be broken. John Tory would have earned my respect and vote if he had the guts to propose termination of funding all religious based schools in the name of fairness, but he didn’t because he knows this is a hornet’s nest, at the risk of losing Catholic votes.
The NDP would have got my vote if I only knew what their policies are other than money for everyone and everything under the sun, without tax hikes and deficits.
The Green Party does propose that promotion of religious believes should not be publicly funded, Catholic, Jewish or Muslim regardless, which I agree 100%. But I don’t believe it has the resources or experiences to manage the many other aspects of Ontario; nor will it have the capability or political will to terminate funding for the deep-rooted Catholic School Board. It is easy to talk ideology when you know you don’t have to execute it.
So, what does this leave me? McGuinty? I don’t know. Help!!!
Democracy has many virtues, but election promises are games of fantasies – “Buyers Beware”. If I would ever get elected as your premier, I’d introduce hefty penalties for false advertisements by politicians, including monetary penalties and jail terms. Maybe this would curtail many of the politician’s bullshits and force them to think twice before playing the mind games on the voters - treating us like idiots. Wishful thinking!!
