One more cordless phone thread

Planning to get a cordless phone. Thinking about getting a panasonic 2750 or 2770. I was looking for one with corded base and expandable cordless handset. Maybe I'll think about 5.8ghz also. Not yet decided it I want a answering machine included. Any other suggestions welcome.

Two questions:

1) While I was reading up on it, one review mentioned that in the panasonic phone with multiple cordless handsets, if we pick up one handset, the other handset would indicate a missed call. Is that a valid claim? If so any other models/brands which do not have that issue.

2) Have heard suggestions that it is better to have a separate answering machine. This was a few years back. Is that still good or the new technology makes it irrelevant?

Thanks

I have not found that the 5.8ghz works any better than the 2.4, perhaps if there are alot of other 2.4ghz users around you - it might be worth it. All answering machines are digital now so I do not see any reason not to have it built in other than recording time. I use the Panasonic 2352 system and it does not have the missing call issue.

Another nice expandable system is the Motorola Md471 (2.4ghz)

What is the next 'free band' above 5.8Ghz? Only benefit that I can see of having the ans.machine separate is that if one breaks ... you still have the service of the other. More wiring to deal with though.

Extra handsets on the expandables aren't too cheap. Better to get'em clearance at Factory Direct or stores on Kennedy. Still run you $100+ at stores like Best Buy/Future Shop/Bay.

We sell tons of Vtech, with low number of returns. Personally I think you should stay with 2.4Ghz, the 5.8 seem to have a little more inteference on them.

You'll want to get a 5.8Ghz phone if you have a wireless LAN setup at home. There's a conflict with 2.4Ghz cordless phones and a wireless LAN.

The 5.8ghz are 802.11 friendly-will work with wireless networks. I just picked one up for my brother for that reason.
