A large scale study suggests that a significant percentage of people 1 out of 5 COVID-19 patients will have mental health issues.

"People who have had Covid-19 may have an increased risk of being diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder such as anxiety or depression, according to a new study.Researchers looked at the medical records of 69 million people in the United States between January 20 and August 1.
The data included 62,000 people who contracted Covid-19, as part of what the authors described as the largest study so far on links between coronavirus and mental health challenges. In the three months following testing positive for Covid-19, almost one in five survivors (18%) were found to get a psychiatric diagnosis. This is about twice as likely as for other groups of patients with different illnesses and conditions analyzed as part of the study over the same period.

"The study reports that patients have a somewhat higher risk of being diagnosed with a psychiatric illness, mainly anxiety or depression, after a COVID-19 diagnosis than after certain other medical events," said David Curtis, retired consultant psychiatrist and honorary professor at University College London and Queen Mary University of London, in a statement."

I watched it...patients don’t have energy anymore and doctors can’t explain why.
What's worse is this is happening in those younger and healthy people who had mild cases of COVID and in many cases leading to mental health issues/depression.

It's the realization that they have no future as a result of the lockdowns and crumbling economy it created. That would devastate anyone on the cusp of starting their career and moving into adulthood. Waking up every morning knowing that your generation has been severely and irreversibly f*cked by Boomers is taking its toll. Very sad indeed.

What's sad is that folks like you who can't suck it up and be patient until the vaccine eradicates this plague. instead, all you do is bellyache and throw out red herrings because the reality is you do not give a rat's ass about folks getting sick.

I'm waiting just like everyone else. The vulnerable and anyone that wants to take vaccine should do so at its earliest availability. I welcome a vaccine. There are only two pragmatic ways forward... a vaccine and/or allowing covid to run its course. The latter would cause a brief brutal backlog to the healthcare system. The former, at this point, seems like crapshoot but well worth it for those that choose it.

I'm beginning to feel depressed. Maybe I've had covid and this is an after effect.

MrUnknown Absolutely not, the mental health issues/depression in the recovered COVID-19 patients are a direct cause of COVID-19 and what the patients are experiencing physically afterwards. Of course one would know that if one read the article or watched the episode, but of course that is not easy for everyone and one would rather make their own false assumptions and their own anecdotal evidence as proof. ;)

Maybe they should move to Europe in the 14th century or North Korea under its present leadership. The quality of life, standard of living, basic human rights & freedoms were so much better there ;
