Q1 2022 v. Q1 2021

Sales increased by 23.6%
Cost of sales increased by 17.6%
S,G&A expenses rose by 18.6%

Doesn't exactly strike me as price gouging. But overall it is a problem when 4 players control about 88% of the domestic market for beef.

Rich get richer. No surprise really! No need to increase the price, but more money is never enough.

As always, the devil is in the details and most of the time, people with an agenda are not interested in the details. I don't know the details but neither do the people making the post and commenting. Was the profit increase due to price increases alone or other items as well. Maybe it was all due to price increases above expenses but we don't know. There can also be playing with numbers to move expenses around from one time period to another for various reasons.

One thing to keep in mind is that if inflation is 10%, then a 10% increase in profit is really ending up the same as the previous year in terms of buying power with those dollars.

Bottom line, things are not always as they appear. The intelligent person who wants the real answer has to dig around sometimes. I say that as someone who just spent two hours this week on the phone getting bad information from two separate people in a certain company about a procedure to be followed and suspecting they were wrong, I went to a supervisor to get the proper clarification of what I thought should be done.
