For those who are unfamilar with OMEX, the company operates in the ocean mining industry. However I am only attracted to this name because of the status of their legal battle with the country of Mexico. OMEX sued Mexico for 2.3b and interest back in 2019, with ruling currently in process for the past 1.5 years. This is well over the average ICSID tribunal ruling time, which makes believe a result should happen soon. They're doing this since a Mexican undersecretary wrongfully denied OMEX to mine. OMEX currently has a market cap around 75m, which means if they win this and are awarded a compromised portion of the original 2.3b plus interest theyre going after, they should 6x.
Another reason a decision could be determined soon is due to phosphate prices increasing lots since 2019, and Mexico has a domestic fertilizer shortage, incentivizing them to settle. This is also being handled in a Mexican court, however the president of the case is Chilean and the arbitrators are from the uk and bulgaria.
However this could potentially go on for another year, or they lose the case. Another risk is they win, but Mexico files another suit against them delaying payment, but I dont think this is very likely.
