Does it matter if you take these spread throughout the day (e.g., during meals) vs. taking them all at once in the AM?

The instructions say to take the 3 tablets at meals but it doesn't say 1 per meal or all at once.

My preference would be to take them all at once so I don't have to remember to take them later.

They can cause your stomach to become upset if you take too many at once.

I take three a day and strectch them out over the day. I use to do them all at once but they are like horse pills and hard to get down. Also they would make me burp and smelled like pussy ;)

Usually when something says take with meals it is because it is hard on your stomach. However, if you don't find that to be the case then you can probably take them between meals on their own or with a snack.

It doesn't really matter if you take it once per day or 3 times per day. If your stomach can tolerate 3 capsules at once then go for it. Some fish oil brands do not cause fish burps.... most do. Udo's oil is not the same as fish oil.

Many doctors have advised me to only take one a day, not necessary to take 3 each day as it says on the bottle. I'm sure the manufacturers would love to hear that, lol.

Be a man and chew em. Carlsson has chewable cod liver oil pills but not sure about salmon, anchovie, mackerel combination ones.

Plant based oils like flax are not as effective as that the body needs to convert it into the useable form that it's already available in fish oils.

Some peoples bodies may not be able to convert it.

One way of getting around the heavy metal accumulation of big fishes like salmon is to use a small fish like sardine based oil.

Ascenta is one such product in liquid form. A teaspoon is more than one capsule worth but probably less than 3.

There is also enteric coated that are more expensive and helps with the burps.

Enteric coated were once thought necessary to help the capsule bypass the acidic stomach but some say its more marketing than necessity.

Though fatty in nature, I imagine it's absorption could be enhanced by the digestion process if taken with food.

Because it is fat soluble and not water soluble like say vitamins C and B, there is no harm in not taking it with food.

2 x 1000mgs is usually recommended per day.

One has to be careful if using blood thinners as fish oil usually paired with some vitamin E are also natural blood thinners.

Recently have started using the supplement Vega One. Can't say anything about the nutritional claims but the chocolate flavour tastes pretty good.

Many companies that offer liquid fish oil supplements often add lemon or other flavouring to help it go down easier.

There are now gummy chewables on the market for both kids and adults.

As far as the Fish Oil vs Flax Oil debate, ultimately, the choice is left up to the individual to decide which is best for them.

http://www.energyfirst.com/site/files/essential-fats/Fish-oil-versus-flax-seed-oil.htm

"The omega 3 that comes from plants is ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), which is then converted by your body into the DHA and EPA. Which brings us to the main point in the flaxseed oil versus fish oil debate: With flaxseed oil, your body needs to take an extra step to convert the DHA and EPA from the ALA using enzymes.

With fish oil, the EPA and DHA are already there. And some people don't even have the necessary enzymes to get DHA and EPA from ALA at all, rendering the flax totally useless. (Women tend to have an easier time doing this conversion.) Even the people who have the enzymes don't have a lot, so sometimes only 10 - 20% or the ALA consumed is turned into EPA and DHA.

So basically, you need a lot more flaxseed oil than fish oil to see the omega 3 benefits http://www.energyfirst.com/site/files/Health-Benefits-Fatty-Acids.htm to your health. (You probably need about six flaxseed oil capsules to get the same amount of DHA and EPA as you would with one fish oil supplement capsule.)"

I have an idea, why not just eat a nice salmon/swordfish/sea bass steak every couple of days
Because then you'd have a problem with mercury intake. Not to mention that isn't as practical and can get expensive.

I bought some Omega 3 vitamins and they gave me some fishy gas so I switched to a coated version and they're much better.

Finally the answer I was looking for. Also, you can buy a cheap coffe grinder for under fifteen bucks and buy your own flaxseed or walnuts and grind it yourself. Sprinkle that over some ceral in the morning with some Goji berries. :thumb:
