I'm in the midst of spring cleaning and I have an inordinate amount of clutter to dispose of.

I problem as arisen since I don't want to dump my old electronics intp the garbage bin. Is there a company that deals with old electronics (cell phones, VCR's, old PC's.....). It's become junk but I don't want it ending up in a landfill and polluting the soil.

Any suggestions?

Does Ontario have public use landfills available?
If you go to Elliot Lake you can dump just about anything. Very few recycle anything.

a little out of the way for you big city folk but there's a company in Barrie called Thriftopia that accepts old electronics and will even certify that your hard drive will be shredded in case you have any 'sensite' info on it.

They make their money from reclaiming the vast arrey of precious metals and divert a myriad of toxic waste from our landfills.:D

Every TO City Councillor hosts an environment day—Google "Toronto environment day" along w/ your councillor's name. They'll take hazardous waste: old paint, pesticides, batteries, fluoros, shred your ID-sensitive documents, hand out/sell/exchange/explain green, grey and blue bins (old and new) and supply free compost (clever jokes linking pols and compost only, please). More to the point, they take consumer electronics and computers for reuse and recycling.
