I have some material on the old format 5 1/4 disks. Does anyone know who could do a transfer from them?

They have been well stored and hopefully are still readable.

Any info appreciated.

buy a drive on ebay and do it yourself. they only cost about $10 - 12
You will also need a specific cable end to conenct to the FD port on the computer, as well as the larger 4-pin power supply cable. It might be a better idea to find some one who has a 5 1/4 drive installed in a computer already.

I tossed hundreds into the trash but have not come across one in the last year. They are pretty rare.

The format of the data on a 5 1/4 is the same as 3 1/2. Machines should still support them.

At one time, almost every small print/photocopy shop had multiple disk drive setups for customer supplied files - if you hunt around there should be somebody who is still set up to read them...

Thanks to everyone for the info and PMs. I have decided to abandon the transfer. The material is on an old word processing program called Multimate and there is no hope of finding that.

I do have hard copies of the material and might just get someone to transcribe it.

Thanks again.

I remember when the entire original Lotus 123 came on one of those disks. What were they 256K max??
