I had mixed feelings about the dress code - part of me objects to the notion of telling someone how to dress when it has NOTHING to do with their job, but part of me also felt that it was in fact getting out of control, and yes damn it, multi millionaires should dress better than thugs and street people. By going with a stylish business casual look compromise, I think it turned out ok.

But...damn...you know, a guy just puts on the fucking shorts they hand him and goes out to play. THE TEAM is responsible for the uniform, not the player. And it turns out the uniforms are ordered 6 months in advance.

This is just stupid....draconian doesn't even BEGIN to describe it...

I can absolutely can less how long a player's shorts are - unless it somehow negatively effects their game.

It boggles my mind why some people make such a big deal out of this.

Image is crucial to the success of the league, as it is with any professional sport. The most successful league in North America has these "draconian" rules, but look at the end result. Big coin for everyone. I have no problem with the rules.

..except the players. NFL player are, on average, the poorest paid of all the big time sports, which when you remember they also have the shortest careers, puts thigs in perspective.

You have a point about the success of the NFL, and how it might be tied to image control. But don't get it twisted - the players (at least those who don't play QB) benefit the least.

It's all relative, they still make one hell of a lot of money, so poorest might not be the best term to describe them. Least wealthy perhaps.
