I know a lot of you are more adept with technology these days than me.

Issue:

I have used a WIN98 computer (yayaya..I know) to get into the TERB chat without any problems, although it has been slow (go figure). I now have a new laptop running NT Professional and getting the chat page to load is hit and miss. Uusally I just get a blank page.

Any ideas?

Rabbits are not supposed to know how these things work.

Many thanks.

Does this sound like a typical "IT Help Desk" answer? How the hell is he suppose to do that?

You say that "usually" it doesn't work implying that it does work sometimes. If that is the case then you do have the proper software installed (i.e. java and flash).

Do you have to run NT? I think XP Pro is better supported. The only thing I can think of to suggest is making sure that you have installed all the patches/updates for NT and the browser you are using.

Naw, IT Help Desk's standard response:

1. Reboot and call back.

2. Reinstall and call back.

Sorry but unfortunately, not to knock anyone here, but I've got too much stuff on the go to get into writing a manual for everyone on troubleshooting their PCs. I get enough of it at my work and don't bring work into my leisure time. I don't ask my financial friends for advice on my investments etc. and they respect me in knowing not to ask me techie questions on my time off. Nothing worse than someone calling you up 9pm at night, sounds like they want to get into a little "how's it going" chat only to find out 30sec into the conversation that "Oh by the way...." and rolls into a 1hr service call.

I simply pointed out a possible troubleshooting tip, it's up to the fellow to follow up on it. He's got a brain and I'm sure he's wise enough to know how to use it or ask questions. I'm not here to babysit or mother anyone...

Just because some of us work with servers etc. doesn't mean we're all geeks FYI. I don't talk shop at home and you'd never know my profession outside of work unless you asked me. It's just that simple...

If you can't install XP Professional, see if you can upgrade to at least Windows 2000. It has the same built in security as NT. You will find that it will all operate a lot smoother.
