Hello everyone!

I have a question I know it's not the usual topic but I thought that is discussed here but hey WTF. Provided all hell doesn't break loose I have a first date scheduled with a lovely lady this Friday. As I'm not from the city but I can get around, some suggestions in restaurants to take her out to dinner would be appreciated. I can find and chose a restaurants in the by-ward market, or in Kanata, but I was wondering if anyone can think of a place that is kinda out of the way you know a hidden gem type of deal. I would like some place quiet so that we can talk and get to know each other some place that has good food that is not going to break the bank.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Jughead

Yeah, the Mill is overpriced and the food ain't that good....

I absolutely love most of the Italian places on Preston. But my favorite restaurant in Ottawa is Bella's. (Yeah, I could eat Italian food every night of the week)

since we're already off topic here ..... I love cannelloni .... but have found around these parts it isn't very authentic .... do you know of a place locally that makes it with the 3 meat stuffing (beef, veal, pork) with cheese and uses the 2 sauces , bechamel (sp?) and marinara? perhaps what I had at the Olive Garden in the states wasn't authentic but it was awesome!!! Last time at OG they had taken it off the menu!!!! grrrrrrrrrrr

Jughead, check out Mezzalune in the Cartier Suites Hotel, on Cooper just off Elgin. Outstanding italian menu. Quiet and classy, just far enough off Elgin to be off the beaten path, with superb food. Dinner for 2 with a half-litre or bottle will cost you about $70. Sounds like what' you're looking for, and you won't have to leave the downtown area.

As for them stuffing their canneloni with 3 meats, I've never been into duos or trios so I can't comment. I've had an italian bj but never a triple-stuffed canneloni. I heard it's illegal in Alabama though.

(that said, it's worth calling them to see how they prep their canneloni - you might get lucky on that one).

here are some different, out of the way places. Might be pricey.

Le metro (on Somerset)
Sweetgrass (on Murray)
Kinki (on York)
Social (on Sussex)
18 (on York)

Let us know how it goes.

Social and 18 are very good choices in the market area but pricey. The food is better at 18 IMHO. With a cocktail, a cheap bottle of WINE (nothing is that cheap there), appetizer, main course and dessert, you are probably looking at $100 per person at least depending on the wine. You can easily go to $1k per person there. The atmosphere is very nice. Social is warmer and cozier but both are great to impress a nice lady. Another cozy place is the Beckta with very good food too. About $100 per person but the seats are very close to the next table but it may not be an issue on early part of the week nights.

Thanks for the suggestion guy's

I can definitely find an easy place to take her but the like of pizza hut, or moxxie's....but I am just looking for that hidden gem that I might not be aware of I will difinitely check out Mezzalune it sound like a spot to try. I am just look to set an atmosphere where we can talk with out have to shout, and the thought of paying $100 per plate does not appeal. I Aggree with that hottie "Rachael Ray" (would not mind an hour or more with that thing....oop's sorry off topic) when says "Good food does not need to be expensive" $70 to $100 for 2 people sound good.

Cafe Spiga.... Very good food and excellent service. quite intimate and romantic ambience.....

Very good for first date impressions, not as snooty as Bernard at le metro and not as trendy NYC style as 18 (overrated) but very good atmosphere....

Good luck and have tons of fun!!!!

Canal Ritz

I like the Canal Ritz on the canal (as opposed to the one in the Market). It's got a nice view and it's pretty romantic (especially in the winter with all the skaters). It's pretty good Italian food and not too expensive (around $10/entrie).

The Keg Manor on Richmond is great for a quieter, more intimate meal relative to the downtown location.
