Maybe it's changed but Ocho Rios was the worst vacation I took around the Caribbean. You couldn't really enjoy local life without getting wave after wave of street beggars/merchants. The hotel was guarded to keep locals out including a beach patrol of seadoos. Just before we left one of our group was robbed in their room by a man with a machete.

Look out for creepy guys that want you (if you are a man ) to go in thier cars with them they claim they will take you to a strip club

Or they’ll try to convince you to follow them on a walking tour into a secluded area and rob you
