I installed a friend's puter at my place while my own is at the shop. When I set up the monitor, it worked fine. However, I noticed there was a band of black at the top and bottom and the picture was a strip about 90% of the monitor area in the middle.

I'm a computer-dumb 'artsie'. Should I try and adjust the picture on the monitor and how should I go about doing this?????

TIA!!!

Dumb Monitors

Actually it's vertical.

Monitors get synched to their computers in some way. Very often when you install a monitor on a different computer (especially when it uses a different resolution) you have an issue of the sort you've mentioned.

Basically, you have to teach the monitor its limits. There should be some hardware-based options for adjusting these. Vertical Size is what you are after but you will probably need to Move the picture area as well as it is rarely centred properly out of the factory.
