"The Bloc Québécois is threatening to spark an election if the forthcoming Conservative budget does not include a $5-billion compensation package for Quebec.

Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe said Wednesday that his party won’t support the budget unless Ottawa agrees to settle a long-running dispute with Quebec, in which the province is seeking $2.2-billion to cover the cost of harmonizing provincial and federal sales taxes in the 1990s. The dispute flared recently when British Columbia and Ontario adopted the HST and got assistance from Ottawa."

I guess the rest of Canada have to pay up or what? Big threat when they have no chance at power.

Trouble makers.

I fucking hate that bastard Duceppe and the Bloc. In my opinion, they shouldn't even be a registered federal party until they run candidates in more than 2/3 of ridings in all of Canada.

If the BQ ran candidates in Ontario I'd vote for them!
Nobody wants an election, especially one forced by those lazy whining malcontents, who should come cap-in-hand rather than come threatening with bluster!! I still don't understand why I as a taxpayer have to see my hard earned money go to the funding of a party that is dedicated to the break up of the country? Yes the BQ leader is charismatic and passionate about what he believes in, and if he were a federalist I'm sure he'd be an asset to whatever party he belonged to. But as it stands he is not, he's a douche bag dedicated to the break up of a nation and forever turning Quebec into a 3rd rate welfare state.

And all this from a territory we conquered fair and square over two centuries ago... we didn't loot, rape or pillage it, hell we didn't even oppress it in any concievable way. Bastards should either be happy and grateful to be CANADIAN or they should just get the fuck out - and expect 300% tarriffs on every border, passport scrutiny at every land crossing and 100 years of remittence payments for their portion of the national debt with interest... enforced on pain of war.

I have no time nor tolerance for rebel scum. Noose and a lamp post for the lot of them I say.

Nice!!! Might I interest you in membership in the Tea Party or some recently confiscated land in the West Bank. The talk of the conquerer is hilarious, they were not the ones whose culture was almost wiped out by assimilation, or right up to the 1970's when applying for a lowly job in Montreal, because all the high paying execs were Anglos, was told to "speak white!" I may disagree with Duceppe's overall goal but he is probably the most genuine of the lot.

Duceppe is the the most genuine of all the leaders, and actually cares and believes in what he's doing. Unfortunally he's a D-bag for trying to break up a country that is the envy of most of the world.

Why would you call them trouble makers when they're asking for something other provinces have received?
I'd call them fools if they didn't look out for their interests.

They do have a chance at power if they can influence the party in power.

he's lying, IMHO

He called the last election when they knew the sh*tstorm coming down the pike (the 2008 financial crisis). The only reason we got out of that was the Canadian gov had a lot more suckers to draw into housing than the US did. Than Spain did, than Ireland did - those country's suckers were had already been drawn in.

Flaherty just raised CMHC qualification rules. I think if they see signs they've pricked the housing bubble and we're about to get the real fallout of the last 2 years debt binge , he'll call the election before the SHTF.

The Canadian Press

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Harper says he will neither call, nor cause, an election in the new year.

In a year-end interview with CTV, Harper says Canadians "don't need an election."
The million pound shit-hammer's about to fall on our heads. Just before it lands we'll get Harper's election call.
