So I bought the new drake album, started listening and I honestly think he has helped make Toronto into the city it is now. Started with a couple singles, featured on some mixes, now got his own album. Back then it was just the leafs, even if they lose again this year we still have Drake :thumb:.

Seems like rush, the barenaked ladies, even blue rodeo, are better known. Granted we don't have any more modern talent. Timmins is plainly the world class city that it is because of Shania and Avril clearly put Belleville on the map.

That said there is clearly no disputing that Stratford is Canada's undisputed cultural epicenter, being as it is ground zero for the Bieb.

I have much respect the fact Drake is not shy about letting people know where he's from, and to show pride in his home town but to state "helped make Toronto into the city it is now." is a bit of an overstatement

Actually an argument can be made for deadmau5 (not my genre of music)

those 3 you cited? better known?by who?ask the over 40 crowd, maybe, but ask the under 30 crowd and you may get puzzled looks and if they are under 22, they will think your a boring old man

Drake. Top 40 pablum. Boooring. Yawn.

TO has a really vibrant music scene with reputable world class modern talent, everything from: Feist, Broken Social Scene, Chilly Gonzales, Colin Stetson, DJ's, Weekend, Anvil, Diana, Holy Fuck, Billy Talent, Besnard Lakes, BBNG, Cancer Bats, Three Days Grace, Eight and a Half, Metric, Stars, Austra, Caribou, etc., etc.

Too?...pretend you are from the mean streets of Toronto also.
I grew up in the ghetto with my fair share of black friends, thugs and criminals of various sorts.
I know people who have been stabbed, shot, killed in a drive by etc. I'm not proud of it but I can call them friends and allies, because at the end of the day, knowledge defeats fear.

I will see Drake October 26th with a fine gal here on Terb. But I wouldn't go far as to say that he's made the city what it is today. Although I like the way he supports Toronto and doesn't forget about his roots.

umm ok, so with all your hardships and being witness to such hate and violence, surely you should be calling Drake out for being a phony, I mean how much did he see coming from such rich upbringing in Forrest Hill.

Drake Grew up in Forest Hill along with a fair share of other rich kids. Never had to do a real day's work in his life nor live 'the struggle' you discussed in another thread.

Nope, I have love for everybody. I don't hate, I look at people and see their worth by their determination and their attitude to succeed. You can call him a phony all you want but at the end of the day he gets more bitches, has more money, has a bigger house and drives a faster car.

I'm very honored for you to remember me from "another thread" hence my username is very distinct. Just because theyre rich don't mean they don't have problems of their own, instead of looking for the next meal.. maybe it was deciding what to eat.. Instead of saving up money and debating which car would better suit his needs... maybe it was deciding which one he shouldn't buy cos he won't have room in his 4 car garage. More money more problems, biggie said it first.

Haven't had to work in Jamestown in over a decade now, but I remember that it was the white trash crack addicts that caused the problems not the blacks. Mind you I was never there at night.

And Toronto's cultural identity was made long before Drake.
