I get the point ou are trying to make but do you really think the majority of the people in Iraq or Palestinians are well educated or should I say have a
broad range education. Look at Afghanistan under the Taliban they weren't allowed to have TV'S OR RADIOS that could receive broadcasts from other countries. Terrorists want to keep people ignorant and confined. Much easier to hate people you really don't know.
While it's true the educational system in Afghanistan is pretty bleak, Iraq had a very good educational system into the eighties, after which, wars, the economy, sanctions and Saddam, began to take their toll. Iraq has made concerted efforts since the 1920's to try to increase literacy. Unfortunately they've slid backwards in the last 20 years, but much of the adult population remains well educated.

Thats a good way to start WW3
I think that CNN has portrayed this guy's remarks unfairly.

He was basically asked, "what do we do if terrorists manage to top 9/11?". He offered two scenarios - further restrictions on personal liberties in the West, or doing the (presumably) unthinkable, retaliating against visceral targets such as Mecca. His point was, in my opinion, that traditional invasions (Afghanistan and particularly Iraq) will not stop terrorism and, as a society, we have rationally discuss what trade-offs we are prepared to make vis-à-vis our freedoms and our consciences.

What a shame that it is being spun the way it is.

If you read your stats you will see it says 55 % of 6-24 yr olds are enroled in schools.

Not only that but children are taught that suicide bombers become martyrs , some education.

Considering the country is devastated, and people are afraid to send their kids to school, assuming their school still exists, I don't find this particularly surprising. My point was that Iraq had a good educational system in place to expand literacy, which is the most powerful tool a people can have.

What is your source that children in the Iraqi government school system are being taught this?

I actualy ment it as a compliment. I think most folks in the US and Canada are pretty smart. Even most I might disagree with from time to time.

Esco.. the title was misleading... "congressman wants to bomb Mecca" makes it sound like the guy went on TV and when asked about the Middle East problem he said "i want to bomb mecca"

Regardless of the context in which it was said... it really was a stupid thing to say, he should be slapped upside the head for it...
