Technically speaking, both cops and teachers are already civilians, and so are SWs, just saying....

Its not the non violent mental health 911 calls that are the issue since even with police response they very rarely escalate into a fatal encounter. Also many cities have implemented crisis teams for years whereby a mental health professional attends a call with police officers. I think we need to call this out for what it is - an excuse and opportunity to cut police funding. And what will the result be - more violence in the streets.
