The new bill could be into enforcement soon that targets "John" who buys sex and pimp who profits from advertising sexual trades!

It sets a high penalty for an offender who pays for sexual services — up to five years in jail, or 10 years in the case of prostitutes under age 18. Fines could range from $1,000 to $4,000, with more severe penalties levied in cases where the exchange happens in public places, in parks or near schools.

Since the supreme court overturned the previous bill for not protecting sex workers, I think this new proposed legislation also will fail to pass. And yes, I imagine the lounge is where the action is.

My understanding is that The Conservatives don't have to give it the SCC to review it. It will be passed without the SCC. Our only hope it that the opposition the Liberals and NDP MPs vote against the bill but it won't be enough votes to turn it down as Harper has a majority gov.

of course they don't have to. that's not how new laws work. they will pass it, then someone has to challenge the law in court. it will get appealed by the listing side to appeal courts until bit reaches the SCC

But that could take a loooong time - about 5 years or so. So we're screwed once the law passes, until the SCC burns it to the ground.

Once sales of Viagra tank, Pfizer will put pressure on the government to overturn the law.
