Don't believe the excuses given at the press conference . It's the 3 day retention barn that scratched this horse.

I'm sorry, this smells big time. I suspect it's a withdrawal because of the investigation going around the trainer(?). The difference in stud fee for a triple crown winner and an almost winner is astronomical, so the money lost is huge by doing this. Does anyone remember las the last two horses who won two races?

me too

...horse had an incident almost running into another loose horse training a couple weeks back...tell tale sign was no published workouts...given the importance of the race...that kind of put up the red flag...with him out...makes for some juicy odds for the exotic plays...

Yeah. One of the very few good things about being as old as I am is to have been in my twenties and watching Secretariat win the Triple in 1973.

Saw it as it was happening, but on TV. It was amazing watching the home stretch, with him running like a locomotive, and as he crossed the finish line the camera had to pan way back to view the rest of the field, with the second-place horse 31 lengths behind!

Sure you can see it on YouTube now, but you can't duplicate the experience of having never seen or heard of any horse being that dominant before, and actually watching it at the moment it happened.

Yea, I know what you mean, I've seen the video but just once I want to be able to see a horse win the Triple Crown live. And then I want to see the leafs win the cup. One can only dream...

I disagree. I was looking to bet against him, due to the 72 hour retention barn. THAT would have made for juicy exactor prices. With the big fave out, the potential payoffs are MUCH, MUCH lower.

The poor horse will now be retired to stud but his owner will make millions from his offsprings.

I'll Have Another was scratched because he is more valuable as a horse who would have won the Triple Crown; instead of being the 12th horse since Affirmed to have failed. A Triple Crown takes a super horse. I'll Have Another is just a very good horse.

I've heard that exact point discussed about 6 times in the last day and not one agreed it was a fact, but just a possibility, which of course we'll never know.

We will never know. But the 3 day retention barn was put in place for this trainer, specifically. I was anything but surprised to hear they were scratching.

Many believe I'll Have Another was scratched to avoid the embarassment of finding an illegal substance in his system a week or so after the race.
I highly doubt that, they would have found illegal substances during the first 2 races, theres no way they would have started giving it to him before the finals races

You have a very limited knowledge of horse racing, sorry to say.

There is more to it than simply drugs. There are also things like Shock Wave therapy.
