It is basically impossible to fire a teacher in California whether or not they can teach a dog to piss on a hydrant. Also the State of California is basically broke might have to use IOUs to pay its bills next month. The unions also attempted to shut down the the LA times ( i think) because they had the nerve to print test results that showed which teachers were actually teaching.

I could see the Union's point about judging the teacher by their students results, irrespective of who those students are. I am sure that the teachers in affluent neighbourhoods or at academic magnet schools would appear to be better simply based on where/who they teach.

On the other hand, it would be nice to have some way to identify and get rid of the incompetents that most of us have encountered at some point in our schooling.

You know, you really should stop this asinine mud slinging against the right at every opportunity that you think you have. The obligation to be accountable to the public that is purportedly served is not a political issue. It is a right of an employer to hold to account their employees. Teachers are paid by taxes, without any party-political element. If you are an employer, I would say that you have the right to hold accountable your employees to ensure that they do their jobs and according to a set standard.

As for your erroneous assumption that I am a right-wing supporter, you are far from the being correct. You assume too much. Furthermore, I am not an American and had no interest whatsoever to support either Bush Junior or his opponents. So, kindly shut your mouth if you have nothing worthwhile to add to a discussion.

Teacher unions in Ontario act just as petulantly as evidenced by their recent antics with Harris' honoary degree. All teachers hate Harris because he championed testing of teachers in Ontario. I've long suspected that many of the whiners on this board that continually bring up his name ten years later are, or were, teachers.
