Well you might as well ban electric wheelchairs since by definition they are motorized vehicles.

Typical lawyers with their heads stuck so far up their ass they cant think outside the "box". No wonder there are so many laws on the books.
I agree 100%.

With all respect due to those who need or have to use electric wheelchairs... I have seen some of them racing down the sidwalks at breakneck speeds that would blow your mind. So what's the diff if we have segways?

Just do it illegally then, I see cyclists get away with riding on the sidewalk every day.

typical decision by individuals without any forsight..and you wonder why
this country is so f******up...geez!
It amazes me how inventors actually get their products to market considering
all the restrictions that governments put on them.

One must remember, the more laws there are on the books, the more corrupt the state. Toronto is corrupt, we already know that.
Nawww ya don't say. Toronto is corrupt? Who would have thunk it.

Worse than electric wheelchairs are the electric scooters which old people think they have a right to drive on the side of the road, this a bunch of flags hanging off of it... I have seen many driven by many a grossly obese person who is too lazy to walk.

There are so many laws on the books because there are so many stupid people out there that do such stupid things that legislation is required to deal with them.

I, for one, am glad to see these machines won't be running on Toronto's already crowded streets and sidewalks. Skateboarders are bad, segways would be ten times worse. Not to mention lawsuits just waiting to happen.

Yeah, well you try driving one on the side walks with speed bumps every six fucking feet! Those joints may seem like nothing when you can step over/on them, but try riding over them for half an hour on 11" wheels! When I'm out on a long trip, it can take up to four hours for the fucking pain to stop!

Nobody puts snowtires on scooters, wheelchairs, bicycles, rollerblades or skateboards either - yet they are on Toronto sidewalks.

Allowing Segways won't increase traffic on the roads and sidewalks - just change the ways people travel. There would be fewer pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, etc.

Between a rock and a hard place
If they just "allocate" (bribe) some for the Police to use for free then see how fast they will become legal for ciizens to use as well. Of course it will make for interesting police chases if a criminal tries to use one as a getaway. "Stop I say" ***whirrrrrrrr****

Sheik, how do you get to wheelchairs from there ? That's not an appropriate segue (hehe). Motorized wheelchairs are used by persons with disabilities; not for recreation. The law makes an exception out of public policy.
