Inspite of the fact that the crude prices has gone down considerably in the international market, still the Gasoline princes in Canada is the same, there is no one to check or bring down the prices of Gasoline products, whereas the poor consumers are being now ripped off by oil companies in Canada. Lord knows what the ferderal govt. is doing, they should keep a check & balance of multi-billion oil companies, and force them to give the genuine relief to our hard pressed canadian public. There is a drastic reduction in the retail purchase price of Gasoline products even in third world countries, & most the other countries in other continents have also reduced their prices! When we will get some gunuine relief from this ripp-off!
Hope some authorities soon take notice of this over due issue! or esle the present govt.will have hard time to get re-elected once again if they do not look into such matter & put their hands on the companies who are squeezing the already heavily taxed public of Canada.

I don't see anything wrong with paying $0.75-$0.80 per litre

When I gassed up last night, regular was $0.999

Well, the price of gasoline is not only based on the price of crude, it is based on many other factors. Could be that production costs have gone up and by not lowering the price could be the oil companies way of recouping those costs.

Anyhow, don't think for a moment I'm defending them, just offerring a possible reason.....

Increased production costs
Increased costs to transport fuel
Increased costs at the pump.. higher property taxes, wages

regarless we should still be paying less than 50c/litre

The only reason for increased shipping costs is the gas costs so much.

This is the time of year they start cycling the refineries over from making heating oil. This results in a shortage in inventories. Prices go back down once they are back up to full capacity. It happens every year around this time.

Guy7 has a point.

We all saw gas prices jump overnight based on the price of crude oil. When oil hit daily highs the gas pumps reflected it. Why don't the pumps reflect the lower oil prices? If they can jump them on a days notice of a higher price why doesn't the reverse apply?

As for fixed costs they are exactly that. It should not affect the proce coming down.

This is a very valid question. OK..the price went up..so WHY has it not come down the next day when crude price fell?

But of course there is no price fixing...gurgle

The price of crude has went down.. but North America has an limited capacity for refining gasoline.. Demand keeps rising while there has not been a new refinery built for almost 25 years

yea all of you should conserve gas...it brings demand down and lowers prices... thne i can take out my muscle car out ..and go racing and do burnouts and cause havoc....for $1.00 less a tank full...( face it we still pay low prices gas..compared to other places in the world...) save your money so they can tax it out of you somewhere elce....

Gas pricing makes no sense to me whatsoever. A snow storm anywhere in the supply chain can cause prices to go up, but drops in crude won't cause prices to go down. I think it's a case of gas companies simply charging whatever they think the market will bear, without justification. They should at least be honest and tell they're charging $0.90 today because they feel like it, and tomorrow they may feel like lowering it to $0.85.

Canada...

...is an oil exporting nation, yet gasoline cost more here than it does in the United States, where virtually all of the oil exported from Canad goes.

Also keep in mind that the supply chain pipeline for gasoline is MONTHS in length. The gas you are buying now came out of the ground months ago...when the price of crude was lower.

The price of gas has only the most casual relationship with the price of oil (as someone else pointed out...it is much cheaper in other oil exporting nations...though not in all of them). it does however have a pretty good relationship with just what they think they can charge and get away with.

You have to be unspeakably naive and foolish to think that price fixing and profit gouging aren't at play here.

High Gasoline Prices Are Good for Petroleum Industry Investors

I am more than satisfied with gasoline prices near $1.00/Litre. I make more money on the dividends from my petroleum industry investments than it costs me to fill my car at the pump. I would make even more money if gasoline prices increase to $1.50/Litre.

Let's hope oil prices stabilize near $70.00/barrel over the next 12 months.

just wait til we're past peak oil and crude is at $200/barrel....

why do politicians exist in the first place? they seem to do nothing. i noted that OPEC seems to have way way too much power for anyones good. oh yeah, they paid for it by purchasing the best govt. money can buy.

[yes, i am a tad cynical at times]

Right here. But wish I was there!

I would much rather pay the price in Canada than what they pay in Europe
And keep in mind that nearly 50% of the price at the pump is taxes and not the fault of the oil companies.

Now who amongst us would like to spend a few million dollars to drill a hole in the ground, hoping to strike oil?

Vote out the lying conservatives if you want lower gas.

Gyaos.

comparing the price of gasoline with the cost of a barrel of crude.. gasoline did not cost less when the liberals were in poer... with their support of Kyoto, the price of gasoline will certainly never come down with the liberals in power

It does not matter who is in power.. they will not lower the price of gas

It is odd that the price of gas is the the same or lower in Toronto than Alberta, considering there is no PST in Alberta
