It didn't take long for these to start appearing

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nocoalition/index.html

If you are a petition type person here you go. A bit of a waste of time perhaps but here is one for what it's worth.

No matter which party you voted for in the last election you didn't vote for what could take place.

Jack and Gilles go up the hill to fetch a pail of graft.....

Whatever way you look at this or whichever side you stand on, this was a huge mistake by Harper. How can he be trusted to take care of the economy when all he is really interested in is screwing the Opposition.

First I signed the petition. However, I was still pissed off, so I then sent an e-mail to the GG telling her that this was not 1926. However, the more I thought about it, the more pissed off I got, so I did something I have not done in almost 20 years despite repeated phone calls (once you are on their list, the conservatives never forget you no matter how rudely you tell them you are sick of their phone calls). I actually gave them money and joined them. I did not really want to join but it seemed to me that it only made sense to get a vote in the party if I was giving them money anyway. Unfortunately, Now I will likely be getting annoying phone calls from them asking for money for the next 30 years now! Thank you Dion. For that alone, I will never forgive you!

I will note that I actually refused to vote for them in the last election. I was going to vote for them, but Harper made it so clear that his only objective was getting elected that it made me sick. Unfortunately, all the other politicians did the same, so I never did the work involved in getting a ballot to vote from here in England. However, I supposed democracy is worth the annoying phone calls.

Go to a CAMRA pub and have a Real Ale pulled.

Repeat as needed.

This is one of the few issues on which we completely agree. I went to a beer festival organized by CAMRA volunteers. 230 different types of real ale from across the UK, each very distinctive in its own right. Only one that I truly disliked: I should have known that Pineapple beer would be a mistake but after you have had a few too many you sort of get caught up in trying to try as many different beers as possible. The German and Czechs here complain about British beers but I really don’t think they are being fair. Their Lagers and British ales are very different and should be judged on their own terms. In additional, I really like the atmosphere of traditional English pubs and I think it is sad that they are going out of business at a fairly fast pace.

I was in Bolton area one year when the Bolton Beer Festival was on. Same idea , all kinds of real beer. I actually signed up as a CAMRA member and kept it going for a few years. Always a toss up as to which to choose. A really sharp bitter of a smooth stout. Then you realize , have them both.

It is sad about the traditional pubs though.

Yes indeed democracy in all its forms is lovely :) Which is why the idiot Harpers political career is pretty much at an end. First he fails to win a majority and then he causes three opposition parties to unite against him. What a moron! Surely the Conservatives must have an advisor somewhere with the balls to say "no, this is not a good idea".

Actually dion is the biggest idiot of them all. The liberals lost the election because Dion pulled them to far to the left and gave up the centre to Harper. If they had any brains, they would be trying to rebuild their party as a centralist federalist party. By first lying during the election about never forming a coalition with the NDP (never mind the Separatists) and now reinforcing their move away from the centre, Dion has done permanent long term damage to the liberal party for the sake of a few possible months as PM. Even if he wins a short term victory, it will be very costly to the liberal party in the long term. Harper’s biggest mistake (and he has made a lot of them) was thinking his opponent at least cared about his own party. The liberals should have waited until they won a legitimate electoral victory in their own right.

It is kind of a sad comment that the discussion seem to gravitate to "who is the
biggest idiot, Harper or Dion?"

Very true. On this point, I am in complete agreement with you.

Only time will tell!
Personally, I was surprised to hear both the Liberals and NDP so vehemently against the idea of a Coalition during the campaign - especially when it was pretty obvious what the outcome was going to be.
However, if the Coalition succeeds in becoming the Government, I think that will spell the end of Harpers career and the Conservatives will have to spend a few years rebuilding.
