Pretty lucrative deal he's getting from Alabama. You have to feel bad for the Dolphin fans. Everybody thought they would be a top contender this season; now they`re back where they started two years ago. After speculation for the past few weeks, Nick Saban has left the head-coaching position at Miami to take the same post at the University of Alabama, ending his two-year tenure with the Dolphins.
A source said Saban failed to show for a scheduled morning meeting at team headquarters in Davie, Fla., with Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga. However, Huizenga had met with Saban at the coach's house before Saban boarded a plane and left for Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Saban told Huizenga of his intentions via telephone and then informed all of his coaches by speakerphone that he was leaving to accept the Alabama position, the source said.
The deal with the Crimson Tide is reportedly for eight years and about $32 million. Saban just finished the second year of a five-year contract with the Dolphins.
