I mentioned in another thread that I am in Niagara Falls. There are NO people here. There are maybe 3 or 4 cars in the hotel parking, and the walkway along the falls is completely deserted. I have not seen it like this in 40 years.

You've heard the news bulletin about the Killer Death Zombie invasion of Niagara Falls being scheduled for about 7:30 this evening, huh?

I was in once in January about 10 years for a break/hobby run/casino time midweek when the agencies had some talent on the roster.

Stayed at the Embassy Suites on a nice deal. I was one of four rooms staying in the entire hotel. Certain times of the year it's dead, add in no border traffic, and there ya go.

Travel volumes from the US are still way down. Not a lot of casual tourists.

I'm doing work for the bridge authority and noticed barely any customs booths open and no cars queued on a mid morning visit a month ago. Lots of different cross border design work in my past.

They had just taken down the covid screening tents the day before.

Was there just few days after when you could eat in a restaurant if could show proof of vax, and still where i ate lunch hardly any did, which I took as a sign it was mostly locals in the place ordering at the counter.

Was there a few years ago during the February holiday with the wife when we had the big ice freeze. Ice floes reached halfway up the Horseshoe Falls. Go there twice a year to play at golf tournaments, love it. Best course not only in Niagara but one of the best in all of Ont. is Grand Niagara. Great Irish Pub is Maguilligans, best cheap restaurant is Jeffroes serving barbecue ribs. Busiest strip bar was Sundowners. Lastly, anyone heard of a new development near downtown in the planning stages called Paradise Walk? Supposedly going to change the tacky downtown district to an upper European style high class tourist area.

I have not heard of Paradise walk, yet. However, on the corner of ferry Street and Stanley, where the Dairy Queen is, they’ve started construction on a new 45 story condo. It may be taller actually, I think the plan was for it to be taller than the Hilton. It’s going to look out of place on that corner. Most of the units will end up being Airbnb’s. So in essence, and illegal hotel.

Grand Niagara is a great course for sure. Just too expensive even for us locals. Legends and Whirlpool are very comparable and more reasonably priced.
Winter time is the best time to visit Niagara Falls. So quiet.

That Dairy Queen is a gold mine.
I don't know why cities don't treat these Airbnb owners the same as legal hotels? Force them to charge a transient tax like hotels do.

I seconds Jeffro's. Great ribs and sandwiches, especially the brisket. About a 25 minute walk from the Falls area. Escort and P4P scene here is a disaster however. I drive o Toronto for my fun. Many more choices and a lot less drama.

Most of the owners are in the GTA, and do not always register the units with the city. It’s then up to the city to somehow find out, and prove it.

Had Air B&B been a thing 40 or 50 years ago…. Knowing who owns the properties here in Niagara, there would have been a lot more suspicious fires in the city. Just sayin.

Wouldn't the Land Registry show who owns it?

What do you locals think of Remington's?
