don't you think that by the NHLPA holding a position that they won't play in the world tourney just solidifies there image as greedy bastards that aren't playing for love of the game, rather for money as they wouldn't be paid for the world tournament?

what's your opinion?

Where are you getting your information from, obviously it's not a very reliable source. Every interview with Canadian players that I have heard ,was they are all interested in playing for Canada at the World Championships and some players were even enquiring how they would go about getting on the team. The World Championships have nothing to do wiith the NHL or the NHLPA, it is run by and sanctioned by the IIHF. So before you start accusing the players as being greedy bastards, get your facts straight. When it comes to representing this country in hockey, the NHL players have always been there to represent this country. The only obstacle that might arise this year with the NHL players playing in the WHC is a problem with insurance, because there is no CBA or hockey this year, the insurance the players normally have, is not in force and hockey canada might have to pick up the tab for the insurance.

CAn't speak about the world tourney, but....

I read a very interesting article summarizing the issues in the NHL strike. I can't recall teh figures exactly but not long ago the average player salary was around $500,000 and now it is up 300% while owner revenue was up only a fraction of that. What workers in North America have seen their wages increase 300% in a relatively short period? These guys are making a living doing something that they love to do, not many of us have that pleasure even at a fraction of what NHL players make. The NHL strike is senseless.

I guess this would have to be the US players then. All american athletes no matter what sport are in it for the money.

Just look at the number of school aged kids preparing for the NBA without regard to education. All Major Junior hockey players in Canada have a minimum grade requirement for all thier players around 75-80%. To prepare for life after hockey.

I know that when i was playing hockey in High school we had to keep our grades up around 70-75% because there wasnt a big chance of going to the AHL or CHL or OHL or College hockey let alone the NHL.
