With the playoffs approaching the NHL schedule will once again be at the whim of television networks and a mysterious hooded figure cackling like a demon in a New York office tower.

Does anyone know where to find the actual time puck drop will be for NHL games?

The “puck drop at 7:00” on a team’s website or social media is clearly bullshit even in the regular season. The game usually only gets underway 10 minutes after that and it’s often much worse in the playoffs. The teams must know the real time though, their warm up routines are pretty tight and the players are superstitious as hell. Does anyone have an inside track to the real information?

Everyone knows puck drop is 7 to 10 minutes or so after the hour or half hour, just like the jays games. This is for TV and radio purposes to give time for telecasts to intro the game. There's a brief intro by the TV talking heads, a few commercials, then puck drop. Unless there's a ceremony that's always the way.

Each team has their own broadcasts. So even though sportsnet starts their broadcast at 630 on Saturday night games, the opposing American team probably doesn't. Weeknight games the broadcast usually starts at 7 or 7:30.

It's very rarely longer than 10 minutes, even in playoffs, unless there's a ceremony. Plus both anthems are 5 minutes or more and are usually shown.
